Swept away by a hurricane to a magical and unknown world, Ellie and her new friends, the Scarecrow, the Tin Woodman, and the Cowardly Lion, set off for the Emerald City in search of the Wizard who will grant their cherished wishes. Referenced in Close-Up: Russian Fairy Tale Movies (2024). You’re hooked the whole time, waiting for Elli to finally meet the Wizard of Oz, and then they hit you with a «To Be Continued.» There’s nothing memorable about the movie, because it’s all just a setup to get you to watch the second part that doesn’t exist yet. On the plus side, the graphics look good and the acting is decent for Russian cinematography. In fact, I’d rate it much higher than Domovyonok Kuzya because the acting, graphics, and plot are slightly better. However, the movie isn’t finished. Modern movies based on Soviet fairy tales are the same: phones are bad, then something happens, and the kid ends up in a magical land. Modern things like iPhones seem out of place and a bit forced. The film simply cuts in the middle, devaluing everything that was shown before. After the end, there was a feeling that you had been cruelly cheated because there was no proper ending.
